Seller: What dictionary do you want?

الطالب: أريد المعجم العربيّ
Student: I want Arabic dictionary

البائع : تفضّل امعجم العربيّ . و ماذاتريدأيضا ؟
Seller: Yes please, Arabic dictionary. And what do you want more?

ألطالب: أريدكتاب القراءة , وكتاب القواعد .
Student: I want a book to read, and book of rules.

البائع : هًَذَا كِتَابَ القِرَاءَة, وكِتابُ القَواعِدِ .
Seller: This is the book to read, and this is the book of rules.

الطالِبُ : أُرِيدُ دَفتَراً و قَلَماً
Student: I want notebook and pen.

البائع : تَفَضَّلِ الدَّفتَرَ والقَلَمَ , هل تُرِيدُ شَيأً اخر ؟
Seller: Yes please the notebook and pen. Do you want any other?

الطا لب : لا, وَشُكراً
Student: No, thank you.

البائع : المطلبُ ثَلاثَوْنَ رِيالاً
Seller: The total is 30 riyal.

الطالب : تفَضَلْ , هَذِهِِ ثلاثوْنَرِيَالاً
Student: Okay, this is 30 riyal.

I feel….

My thought just full about you. Again. You. You. Even many people say you are not good , you are not handsome enough , and other reasons.. I feel.. still feeling the same.

But. You will go. Away. And I don’t know for sure.
I feel you will left me behind.

So, is it the time for say goodbye?

I think I falling in love with you.

For the first time, I thought that my feeling just so-so and will fade away. But, why I feel that you met me is desined after we separate for years (and I almost forgot about you) ? I don’t know.

If you go and I go, so we actually destined. But, if you go and I left behind, so this is the end of our story.

Proof

I have been learn about many things and I thought about that many event that happened in my life. I have learned about Quran and the meaning, how people should behave and how our life must be going to.

For example, people can’t get dissapointed towards the other. If we feel dissapointed towards others, then it means that we expect people to match up our expectation. When they cannot reach up our expectation, we feel dissapointed.

The other example is, I have learned that every place in the world is same. Not even a single place is higher than others except the two most of desirable place in the world: Makkah and Masjidil Haram. So, whenever I thought that living in foreign, go abroad, etc are always to be proud of, I don’t think about that anymore. Wherever is the good place that can make we reach the heaven in the afterlife.

The other is, when we cannot feel envious, jealous, and hateful towards the others who can reach the ‘material success’ in the world. Sometimes, we feel that we are small and un-useful. I just stop to think like that and start to think that something that people see it is big, not yet certain in Allah’s point of view. So, I start to think to believe my self and build my sefl confidence.

I always building my mind with something like that .. and.. yeah, the proof should coming soon.

And here we goes…

Allah give me the event where I should proof my thought though my action.

First event. When my friend ingore me, hate me, and don’t think about me, etc, etc. Should I feel dissapointed with her? When she act like a person who I don’t recognize, should I interrupted her and criticize her? Should I? I choose to be more mature. I keep silent and watch her from away. I choose to act like nothing happened and stay cool.

Second. When I was in candidate to go to abroad and the ending is I am not the one. Me and my friends were struggling together and fighting together. But, in the end, they get what they want and I am not. Should I feel envious, jealous, and hateful? Me in the past time, may be would act like that. Hate the person who reach ‘material success’. But now? No. I prefer to choose to congratulate them. I feel happy for them. We should support each other, not hate each other. Even I am not good enough to be their friends, I try to be the good friends. I believe that if I don’t go there, then Allah has another plan for me. So, no worries for me.

And .. last, I still to learn to be more mature. Thanks for the people around me. Either you are good people or bad people, I learn a lot from you all.

Pragmatist VS Idealist: Which One is better?

Being pragmatic person seems to be sinner but this choice also popular. When the student was the activist in the campus, often did demonstration on the street, and seems to be opposite of the government. Those kinds of students called as the idealist person and try to support the lower level people. But, once they graduated, they seem look for job in the international or national company. When they have job in those kind companies, their formerly friends would say that they are already turn on pragmatic people, have idealism anymore. Is it true?

Actually, what is the meaning being pragmatism person or the idealist person? Pragmatist is who never thought about others, they practically done something what the front eye is. They thought about their more. Sometimes, they put aside their principal to do something that gives more benefits to them. Summary, they have no tough principle. The pragmatists see the idealist as the people who never face the reality, somebody who live in the wonderland, somebody who gets hard life because of the idealism.

So, the opposite of the pragmatist are the idealist, isn’t it? Either true or not, people often to compare both of them. The idealist person is the person who always thinks the bigger picture, visionary person, and don’t want to do such cunning stuff. They identical with the activist that always do some walk in reaction to the government; they seem care of the proletariat, the poor. They see the pragmatists are the bad, have no vision, and have no dream.
We life in the world where full of complex problems. Why we just keep argue each other when we face each problem every day? Let’s see what the real meaning behind being pragmatist or idealist is.

Pragmatic people focus on the practical. They see the problem and face it. It is a practical and simply solution. They sometimes ignore the morality when they decide something. They have the utilitarian principal. If the decision has more benefit for more people or for their self, they will choose this option over the others. In student point of view, that can be mean that they will do well and reach the wealth and comfort life. They usually study well, join community or organization to make the Curriculum Vitae shimmer, get the high GPA, graduate early, apply position the national or multinational company, work hard for the better position, get married, build the small family, and live wealthy. They don’t care about issues in their surrounding, and they prefer to not hear anything as long as it doesn’t disturb their life.

The idealist people see the bigger picture. They have vision and mission in their life. They need actualization of their self towards others. They consider many things before decide something; they think the problem in the other’s point of view. They calculate the risk and the cost and want the best solution. They care each other, they don’t be selfish person, and they easy to help who needs. They pay tribute about the morality, religion and such things. They do something based on their principle.

Being a pragmatic is needed when you are in the simple situation and urgent because you might face small problem in your life. In such situation, for example in the market, you bargain for things. You and the seller argue each other about the price. This thing like that, you don’t need an important principle. You may save time and just pay the stuff little bit expensive that you expected. Sometimes you need to do charity, yes charity to the people. But, when you need thing, decide it wisely. Don’t argue thing that not much important or needed. It will be wasteful.

Even you choose to be pragmatic, but you still need your heart to decide. You need to be idealist sometimes. For example, you are in the street and you disobey the rules. The police call you. There are two choices: go to the court and pay the penalty, you pay for the police directly office. The amount of money that you will pay directly to the police sometimes same with penalty you pay in the court, but sometimes much more than you pay in the court. Are you a pragmatic person or idealist? When you choose to pay the charge directly to the police, then you do bribe. When you choose to go to the court and pay the penalty there, you follow the right rule. But, there will be a trade off. You will lose some money and time when you choose to pay in the court. You will save some time when you bribe the police. Then, it is your decision: do you follow your truly heart or put aside the voice of your heart?

Pragmatism and Idealism seems the big problem for student, especially for fresh graduates. They confused about the principles that will block their path to reach their dream. So, it is not surprising when fresh graduate apply in many jobs, even the jobs are not fit with their background or their passion.

Due to the pragmatic attitude, fresh graduated person often to loss attention to the contract. They just want to get job early and work as soon as possible. Actually, they need to read the contract before they put the sign in. Read it carefully and before you did the sign in, ask what disturb you most. Don’t be shy. If there is something that contrary on your principle, you might delay to sign to consider it more, or you would deny directly. If there is a principle that you think you must left it, think about the risk. If you want to accept the offer, think about how your days will be, think how your heart will feel it is not your passion and not enjoy the job. If you want to ignore the offer, think what the best to do other than that job, think how much time you will spend on looking another job. If you believe that there will be better job than this, you must keep stand on your belief.

Companies are looking for their candidate, but you allow picking them also. Don’t be afraid to keep stand on your principle. As long as the principles are your belief that worth to stand for, there is nothing to lose. Some people might think that if they keep the principle, they wouldn’t get the job. It is not totally true. Some companies looking for someone who has vision, mission, dream, and passion. They don’t want to hire someone with no soul, and do whatever to reach the goal, put aside their own heart, their own surrounding, and others. Don’t worry; there will be a fit place for you.

Go get some information on campus recruitment, such as ECC UGM. ECC UGM also provides some job vacancy, information, advices, and also counseling. This website is surely helpful. They also hold the training that will help you to adapt the work force. ECC UGM give the easy way to apply job and do the test. Usually, some tests hold in their career center that located near the campus.

So, whatever you choose, I hope it is better for your life. The most important thing is you need to have principles. You are not a puppet. You are person and you need to drive your own life. Don’t let people drive on your life and you just do what they want just get the practical way. Follow your heart and find your truly passion. Your must be sure that your belief for sure won’t disappoint you.

Empty

Even I think that I should let you go away, I feel empty.

How come I cannot feel like that when the time between you and you go from my life is nearby.

Dear you, the first I heard you passed away on Sunday, Januari 2013, 6th, I was shocked and said “NOW?!” on the phone with my mom. I still feel sad for you. What can I do just keep praying for you. I am not brave enough to accompany you to the last resting place. I am not kind of affraid about you, but I feel that I won’t be strong enough to see you like that.
I saw your sandals and remember that you was worn the sandals that has the different heels due to the different length of your legs. I saw your bed and remember our last talks, you smiled remembering many stuffs that I don’t even know what is it about. I remember when I was teens I often to spend the night with you and also sleep on the same bed. We often to go the small mosque together that place in front of the house. In the morning, you cooked the scrambled egg that the taste was very salty, even I don’t like it, I still ate it.

Dear you, the second you. I mean, the different person from before. You sent me text in this morning and said you left. I don’t even have enough strength to reply at that time. First, because the person who left is you. Second, because I still sad on the moment to sent my beloved one go away, go to the last resting place, a cemetry. You, why you left this quick? It was just short time to acknowledge you. I was planned to leave you first. But, you do first. Why. I even wonder why. I even wonder if we have the same feeling. Why. I cannot ask you anything about why you left, where you will go, what your plans, and others. Instead of asking those things, I just sent you a text told that I hope you best wherever you are.

Life must go on. In life, there is always person who come in and goes by. I must allow this feeling. I must be strong. This will repeat more in the future.

In the end, I just hope that both of you do well on the next step on the (after)life and your life. God Bless.
